Wasted Labour

Created in collaboration with Martin Lewis.

A video installation that draws upon durational drawing practices, dance choreography, to reflect upon notions of physical labour and its relationship to the body. 'Wasted Labour' markes the beginning of a developing series in which Lewis and I are exploring the use of machinery as a tool for drawing and performance practices. Here, we move back and forth on the seats of rowing machines to question whether the repetition of physical actions is a form of wasted labour. In our separate practices; I create a range of time-based experiences using sound, video, installation, and performance that explore notions of power between an audience and an artwork. Meanwhile, Lewis works with drawing based on line, number, sound, repetition, and the performing body. Together, we are exploring how our varying practices share ideology, methods of presention, and audience experience.
