Rhythm of Effort II

Video installation, looping, audio (2016)

Created in collaboration with Martin Lewis.

In their collaborative practice, Ballard and Lewis use everyday machines as tools to examine human effort, physical labour, and repetitive, rhythmic movements of the body. In Rhythm of Effort II, they use a school playground roundabout to examine the ways in which we use the foot to maintain momentum - similar in movement to footsteps, yet with an uncanny fluidity and perpetual rhythm like a metronome.
